Hi, it's Tina. I'm here with your one-minute management tip.

Today I want to talk about creating engagement in short encounters, because many times our patients are only in front of us for just a minute or two. How can we make that connection with them?

Well, the first one is — make sure you have eye contact.

I can't tell you how many times I've gone into a doctor's office, the front office person is looking down at their computer, never even looks up. Just asks me for my name. That doesn't make a connection. When we see people eye to eye, we can look at them — they know that we're seeing them and listening to them.

Let them know that you appreciate them coming in on time: “Thank you for arriving to your appointment on time. We really appreciate that.”

And then also let them know if there's anything else you can do for them. They've checked in, “Do you have any questions or is there anything else I can do for you?”

The same goes when you are connecting in the back office, letting them know that you care about them. “How has your day been going for you?” or “Have you done anything exciting recently?”

People want to know that we are genuinely interested, and for that to happen, we need to be. So think of some questions that you can ask your patients to let them know that you personally want to connect with them at each encounter.

If you have any questions or would like to talk further about this, just email me at Tina@TopPractices.com.
You take care. Bye.
