Hello, welcome to today’s One Minute Management Tip, my name is Tina Del Buono. You know, one of the common things I hear often when I talk with practices is that they don’t have enough time to get things done. People in the practice are very, very busy and our number one priority is seeing our patients. So, how do you get everything done? Well, if you belong to the Virtual Practice Management Institute, Dr. John Guiliana did an excellent module for us called, “Time Management for the Busy Professional". Listen to what he has to say. There’s also a couple of tools in there – one is an Activity Log that you can use to monitor what you’re doing during the day and how much time it takes. And also, “Eight Steps to Effective Time Management.”
Today I’m going to give you three quick tips. First of all, you need to be able to assess your time. If you don’t look at how much time you have, you won’t know how much time you have. And, you need to be able to figure out how much time your tasks are going to take and then set priorities. “Which comes first?” And then make a schedule. “When are you going to do these?” Then jump in and do it at that scheduled time. I know that sounds simple, I know our phones are ringing and patients are coming in and out, but if we don’t begin to set up a schedule for ourselves or know where our time is spent, we are never going to get things done. And this will help to organize you. IF it’s in your mind, and it’s on a piece of paper in front of you, you are going to be more apt to get it done.
Well I hope this little tip has helped you! If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]. If you’re a member of the Virtual Practice Management Institute, give a listen to the information Dr. Guiliana has given. It is excellent. Well I hope you have a great day!
