Hi, it's Tina, and I'm here with your one-minute management tip. Recently, I was talking to a manager who was stating that she was having some issues with a staff member always asking for help. Now we talked about the training program, training had taken place, they'd been signed off on all of the tasks that they could do.

Sometimes people just want to pass off their work. And first of all, we have to look and see why is that.

  • Training
  • Do they actually have the time to do it?
  • Sometimes people just want to do less.

Well, what we need to be able to do when this situation arises is to provide support for that person without removing the responsibility for the action.

Let them know, "Hey, I know you can do this. Do I need to talk you through something? Do you just have a question regarding it?" But a lot of times what we'll do is we'll just take it on and go, it's easier if I just do it myself. Well, you're not helping that person to do what they are responsible to do in the practice when you do that.

So remember, provide support without removing responsibility for the action. You'll be doing yourself a favor, and also you'll be doing your staff member of favor by showing them that you know they can do what they've been trained to do. If you have any questions or want to talk about training tips, all you have to do is email me at [email protected] or Dr. Peter Wishnie at [email protected]. You take care now. Bye.
