Hi, it’s Tina, and welcome to today’s One Minute Management Tip. Do you ever get interrupted at work? Or do you ever interrupt your coworkers? Hey, I know it happens all of the time in my office, and I’m sure it happens in yours. And do we like it? Absolutely not!
You know, a study was set at the University of Irvine, California where researchers shadowed workers on the job on productivity. The study showed that once a worker was disrupted from their work that it took 23 minutes and 15 seconds to actually get back to what they were doing before the interruptions. 23 minutes and 15 seconds! Oh my gosh, that’s a lot of time. And how many interruptions do we get a day? And how many people do we interrupt a day?
My tip today is to sit down with your staff and talk about the interruptions that happen. They just do and a lot of them are unnecessarily done. I know we interrupt our doctor in between patients and he hates them. So, come up with a way that you can cause less interruptions.
One thing that we do, if we need to talk to our doctor and it’s not an urgent matter, we write it down and when he’s in his office then we ask, “Do you have a few minutes for me? I have some questions for you.”
So, I hope this tip helps you. And if you have any questions just email me at [email protected].
