Hi, it's Tina. And I'm here with your one-minute management tip. Well, it's the beginning of a new year. And usually during this time of the year, we start thinking about changes or goals that we want to have for our practice. Now, this isn't always easy and it doesn't set well with everyone. When you talk about the changes that need to be made. And there's a few reasons why.

1. Is that a lot of times the business owner or the manager state that we need to make these changes and they demand that they be done because they know what the end results will be. They have what's called the marathon phenomena where they can see the end. But what they don't take into consideration is that the people who are actually going to be doing the tasks that involve changing, don't see the end. And so that causes people to, you know, be a little more resistant.

So what can you do to prevent this? First of all, when you want to make any type of changes in your practice, what you need to do is to discuss it with the people in the practice. You know, let them know what it is that you would like to change and how, it may affect what they do. And then allow them to have time to think and ask questions. Sometimes you'll find out that they've thought of something that you haven't.

And then set timelines for the goals. We do this in the Virtual Practice Management all the time with training and various tasks in the practice.

How are we going to make those changes? Well, this week we're going to do this. Next week, we're going to do this. They have timelines. And reassess, if necessary, if somebody is struggling or something isn't working right, just don't say work through it and make it happen. Really take the time to look at them. And listen to what these people actually have to say, if you want them to make the changes and make them work. You know, be a change supporter, understand. And then, when the changes are made and you're all moving forward towards the goals, take the time to celebrate and thank those who made it happen.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this food for thought. And you can email me if you have any questions at [email protected] or Dr. Peter Wishnie at [email protected]. Talk to you later. Take care. Bye.
