Hi, it's Tina and I'm here with your One Minute Management Tip. Recently, I was teaching at a conference and we had a roundtable where medical assistants had the opportunity to share some of the frustrations that they go through in their practice, and try and brainstorm with ways that they could make them better. And one of the ones that was heard repeatedly was working for physicians that are always changing their mind in how they want things done.

This left the medical assistants feeling dumb and drained and disappointed at the end of the day like they just weren't doing a great job. They thought they knew what to do but then when they got to work or stepped in the room it was done differently.

Well, one of the solutions for this, and I thought it was great, was that if your doctor has more than one way to do a certain procedure, draft up the protocols that they like to do. Maybe you might have two or three. And then when you do your morning huddle and you see that a patient is coming in for a certain procedure or maybe possibly a casting ask the doctor, "Doctor, are we going to do protocol 1, protocol 2, or protocol 3 for this patient?" This way the assistant is more prepared for how to set up for the physician, and also the physician is more satisfied with how things are running the practice because they have talked about it and prepared ahead.

Well, I hope I've given you some food for thought. And I want to thank you for joining me.
