Hi, it's Tina and welcome to today's One Minute Management Tip. Today I want to talk about complaining. Well, actually learning to complain less. Our office has been going through a lot of changes recently and along with that we've noticed that we're complaining more. Well, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to give our opinion or a solution when something or a situation in the office needs to be fixed, but what happens when people start complaining is it's kind of like an infectious disease. It just starts brewing throughout the office going from one person to another and complaining can really be destructive.

Researchers say that people need a three to one ratio of positivity in their life every day in order to have a positive attitude. So what does this mean? This means that we need to have three positive things happen or things said to one negative in order for us to keep a positive attitude And having a positive attitude is linked to greater creativity, increased motivation, better cardiovascular health and actually resilience and happiness. Who doesn't want that?

So, my tip is: Before you open your mouth—and I'm preaching to myself also—is there something positive that can be said instead of a complaint? If we all practice this, not only will our practices be better places but so will the world that we live in. I hope this tip gives you some food for thought.
