Keeping Humor in the Workplace

Hello, and welcome to today’s One-Minute Management Tip, my name is Tine Del Buono. So, I am going to ask a question: Do you think that humor is hazardous in the workplace? The last Gallup Poll in 2015 showed that 70% of Americans were unhappy at work. Wow! I think that we need a little humor in our workplace.

But many times employers tend to think that if there’s laughter going on, work is not getting done, when in fact, it’s just the opposite! When employees are enjoying themselves, maybe there’s some laughter going on and they’re having fun, actually the workload increases. They do better! Why? Because they’re happier, it only makes sense! And you know what? When they’re happier, our patients are going to be happier.

Laughter reduces stress and it increases T-cells that help our immune systems to get stronger. It oxygenates our blood, our muscles can relax. We feel better! You know what? Why don’t you see what you can do to bring a little humor into the workplace today?

And . . . if you’d like some information on creating humor in the workplace, you can email me at [email protected] and I’d be happy to send you this form that has four little questions of things that you and your staff can answer and decide how you can bring a little more humor into your workplace.

Well, I hope this gives you some food for thought, and I hope you have some fun today at work!
